International

In today’s era of globalization, the international issues such as energy, climate change & environment, affects and cut across all the countries around the world and physics community. Hence, the institute aims to promote and support physics in furthering scientific knowledge and providing economic and social benefits in the UK and Ireland, and internationally –especially in the developing world. Although the majority of Institute members live and work in the UK and Ireland, about 1/6 members are international. The Institute has close relations with other physical societies around the world. The Institute does not compete with other physical societies in their home territories, but works with them to strengthen the role of physical societies generally.

The Institute is a major player in European Physical Society providing significant funding and has active involvement in International Union of Pure and Applied Physics. The aim is not just to represent the British and Irish physicists in these organisations, but also to help these organisations work effectively for the benefit of physics and physicists worldwide.
