IOP Conferences

Forthcoming Institute Conferences

Date: Fri, 30 January 2009
Venue: The Institute of Physics
Organised by: the Superconductivity Group of the Institute of Physics

Introduction

This is the annual scientific meeting of the Institute of Physics Superconductivity group, which accompanies the Annual General Meeting of the group.  There are four invited speakers who will talk on a range of topics in fundamental and applied aspects of superconductivity research.  There are also six shorter slots which will be filled by talks selected from submitted abstracts to the meeting as well as a poster session.  Hence, this is a very good opportunity for UK superconductivity researchers to showcase their work.  Two confirmed speakers on the application/ device side of the meeting are:  René Flükiger (Geneva) – recent advances in use of superconductors for high field applications, and Alexander Kozorezov (Lancaster) – application of superconducting tunnel junction as detectors.

This year the meeting is sponsored by the Bristol/Cambridge/St Andrews EPSRC portfolio partnership, as well as the Superconductivity group itself, so the registration fee is as low as 20 pounds for students (IOP members).  So please use this opportunity to come to the meeting and present your work.  As an added incentive there will be a prize of £150 for the best poster by a student.

Posters Submission
Abstracts for posters should be sent by e-mail to a.carrington@bristol.ac.uk and should be up to 1 page (A4) in length including any figures.   Speakers for contributed talks will be selected from these abstracts, so please make it clear when sending your submission if you wish to be considered for a contributed talk slot.  The preferred format for the abstract is a single page pdf file.  However, submissions in Microsoft Word and Latex will also be accepted.  The deadline for abstract submission is Friday 9 January 2009.  All abstracts received will be combined into a booklet and distributed both electronically and in print form at the meeting. The measurement size of the poster boards are 2m x 1m Portrait. Please endeavour to keep within these dimensions. We will provide velcro.

Venue
The Conference will be held at the Institute of Physics, 76 Portland Place, London W1B 1NT. Located in central London, the Institute is within 10 minutes walk of 5 tube stations and also within easy reach of Euston, Paddington and Kings Cross.
